**Applications now open for the 2021-2022 season!**

(For the 2021-2022 season, a new board structure and responsibilities will be in place to allay COVID-19 concerns, while addressing various student needs and parent concerns.)

Established November 2017, the Friends of Martin Nature Center Teen Board is a unique opportunity for high school students to connect with the community as well as their environment.  The purpose of the teenFriends Teen Board is to bring a team of high school students together to aid FMPNC, Inc. in preserving and sharing the native habitat of Martin Park for current and future generations.  By engaging youth in our park activities, we will bring new energy into our mission-based work while developing nature and environmental ambassadors and future leaders of our community.

The teenFriends Teen Board seeks to encourage personal growth and development of the skills and behavior required of good teenFriend team members and leaders.  Students will have the opportunity to earn volunteer service hours by attending board meetings and park events while learning about careers in natural resources, parks, recreation and leisure, wildlife, and biology.  Board members will also have the unique opportunity to learn how nonprofits and societies work together and with city government.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Selected FMPNC Teen Board members serve from September through April.  Students earn volunteer hours by meeting attendance, event assistance and through 'micro/virtual-volunteering' activities.  Due to the COVID-19 affect on volunteer opportunities, meetings, and park events, teen volunteers may earn service hours through fundraising, material donations, and by completing small tasks that address the Park's need for non-contact educational exhibits. These 'micro/virtual-volunteering' tasks can be done at home or out in nature and can include photography, short videos, and viewing and evaluating TED talks online.  Teen board members will be required to attend meetings that will be structured with teen and park employee safety in mind.
