teenFriends of Martin Park
Nature Center

**Applications now open for the 2023-2024 season!**

Established November 2017, the Friends of Martin Nature Center Teen Board is a unique opportunity for high school students to connect with the community as well as their environment.  The purpose of the teenFriends Teen Board is to bring a team of high school students together to aid FMPNC, Inc. in preserving and sharing the native habitat of Martin Park for current and future generations.  By engaging youth in our park activities, we will bring new energy into our mission-based work while developing nature and environmental ambassadors and future leaders of our community.

The teenFriends Teen Board seeks to encourage personal growth and development of the skills and behavior required of good teenFriend team members and leaders.  Students will have the opportunity to earn volunteer service hours by attending board meetings and park events while learning about careers in natural resources, parks, recreation and leisure, wildlife, and biology.  Board members will also have the unique opportunity to learn how nonprofits and societies work together and with city government.

Selected FMPNC Teen Board members serve from September through April.  Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Saturday or Sunday of each month.  Service hours may also be earned for attending board meetings and park events, providing habitat support or donations, photography, and by viewing approved TED talks online. These 'micro/virtual-volunteering' tasks can be done at home or out in nature.

Teen Board members must attend high school and be enrolled in 9th to 12th grade.

Younger members may be considered based on FMPNC / Park employee recommendations.

Teen board meetings are once a month on Sundays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the Martin Park Nature Center.  Meetings are held every 3rd Sunday.

Board members will serve an eight month term from September through April.

Board members may only miss one scheduled meeting. Attendance may be made up on approval.

The first board meeting is a mandatory orientation on September 24.
